Bach: Mass in B minor, BWV 232

Featuring: Joanne Lunn, Réka Kristóf, Eric Stoklossa, Miklós Sebestyén – voice
Conductor: György Vashegyi

An emblematic work of European culture, Bach’s Mass in B minor is a grandiose and enigmatic work, with a host of secrets in every bar. Its dimensions are comparable to those of the St Matthew Passion, and György Vashegyi thinks “it is one of the most outstanding masterpieces of all times, which poses vast challenges for its performers.”
Orfeo Orchestra and Purcell Choir will be joined by superb soloists. The soprano solo is sung by the British Joanne Lunn, an internationally in-demand performer of early music. The tenor soloist, Eric Stoklossa is a versatile performer, who has sung in the productions of the New York Metropolitan Opera, the Staatsoper Berlin, and Milan’s Teatro alla Scala. Réka Kristóf, who made a name for herself in Virtuosos, released In furore, a CD with works by Vivaldi and Handel, in 2019. The bass solo will be sung by Miklós Sebestyén, who is heard in Hungary and abroad.

This concert of the Budapest Spring Festival is presented by Müpa Budapest.
