GlasSpring

Contemporary Hungarian glass art

A unique material with special optical qualities, glass is both hard and soft, fragile and strong, capable of entrancing artists and viewers alike. The young enthusiastic artists who in the 1960s took part in the international studio glass movement experimented with glass in small studios, attempting to find new visual and formal possibilities in the material, rather than new functions for it.
Hungarian glass art also saw the dawn of a new era: while traditions were revived and classical design enjoyed a renaissance, glass was increasingly considered as a raw material for sculpture. Over the past 50 years, Hungarian studio glass art has attained world-class quality, is prized by leading museums and collections, and keeps attaining international acknowledgement at the most prestigious exhibitions.
In May, the members of the Hungarian Glass Art Society will have a new opportunity to show their art to the German public, thanks to the invitation of Glasmuseum Lette, an institution with a significant collection. The exhibition of Tér-Kép Gallery offers a selection from the material of this display.

The exhibition is on view between 5–27 April.
