Each year, Budapest Photo Festival concentrates on a different classical theme of image-making, and 2020 will be dedicated to exploring how contemporary photography relates to the problems of representing the human body.
Throughout the ages, our relationship to the body has been affected by several factors, from public taste to mores. The healthy young body became a symbol of human and universal beauty and harmony. Unsurprisingly, the naked body became a subject for photography almost immediately, and works started to present and interpret aspects and motifs of sexuality.
The representation of the human body, and everything related to it, is a sensitive theme to this day, and how artists relate to the subject is indicative of current gender and social roles, identity and moral standards.
The exhibition is on view between 4 April – 31 May.
This event of the Budapest Spring Festival is jointly presented by Budapest Festival and Tourism Centre and Budapest Photo Festival.
