One of the brightest stars of the young generation of pianists, 26-year-old Daniil Trifonov is no longer a mere promise. Martha Argerich thinks “...what he does with his hands is technically incredible. It’s also his touch – he has tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that.”

Daniil Trifonov studied the piano at Moscow’s famous Gnessin School of Music from the age of five. In 2009 he continued his studies in Cleveland. Following a number of competition wins, in the 2010–2011 season he won medals at three important international competitions, finishing third at the Warsaw Chopin Competition, and coming in first at the Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv, and at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. His career rocketed with these wins, and he has been presented in the world’s leading concert halls, as the soloist of principal orchestras.

In 2017 Trifonov won the greatly prestigious Karajan Prize, which he received at the Salzburg Easter Festival.
