Since the tale the libretto is based on unfolds in no clear-cut way, Mozart’s Singspiel has one of the most colourful interpretation traditions in the history of musical theatre. Certain parts of the opera are known to have changed from one performance to the next even in Mozart’s own time, because the actor-singers were keen to use the prose dialogues as opportunities to reflect on current issues of public interest.

Some of the parameters of the drama – such as locale, the time of the action, the characters’ relationship – can be freely varied, nor are there hard-set conventions associated with the circumstances and theatrical space in which The Magic Flute is to be played. So why not perform Mozart’s mysterious piece at an airport terminal, a location that is in itself redolent of with change and a thirst for the unknown, with adventure and trust?

The struggle of light and darkness, the key conflict of the entire opera, will appear in a special context, in which the magical effect will be created by light itself, thanks to the mixed media.

Parking is free at the venue, which will also be accessible with the Malév branded nostalgia buses of Aeropark, the museum of aeronautics. They leave from Deák Square at 6 pm, and return from Ferihegy at 10 pm. You can get on board with your concert ticket, but registration is required, click here for registration.
